Hyperopia

by Matt Neff

Hyperopia gestures towards a condition of looking forward and backward simultaneously—a present that holds a blurred vision psychologically and metaphorically. Trace encounters, refuse, and forgotten histories, stacked, layered, and re-presented to form a past-present through chromatic and achromatic landscapes. The images compress multiple time periods, lives, past relationships, and losses that are overlaid, obfuscated, and suspended in space. They intentionally dislocate a sense of ground, a reflection of memory loss, soft light, and moments that slip away into new configurations.
